An Advisory Board of Directors comprised of influential and accomplished men
and women from widely differing fields of endeavor serve as the foundation of
the Sangamo Club. These individuals have given their time, support and guidance
to further continuing success of the Club.
Please consider recommending the Sangamo Club when dining with friends, family,
and business clients. Also, consider our various private rooms for wedding
events, birthday parties, anniversaries, charity events, business dinners,
board meetings or seminars. You will find the Sangamo Club is worthy of your
greatest expectations no matter the event or the length of your guest list.
The Sangamo Club is noted for fine dining in an elegant atmosphere. Only the
freshest highest quality ingredients meet the standards set by our Chefs.
Reservations are encouraged for all open-dining areas of the Club, with the
exception of the Grill Room, at which reservations are not accepted at lunch.

LUNCH DINING [ Top ]
Weekday lunch offers a broad menu, featuring fresh meats, seafood, vegetarian,
American and ethnic cuisine and daily specials. Lunch is served quickly and
unobtrusively.
Lunch in the Grill Room offers a traditional, yet more casual atmosphere,
complete with large-screen television monitors. Guests dining in the Grill Room
seat themselves. During lunch, Members who are not accompanied by a guest or
other Member are invited to sit with fellow Members at one of the two group
tables in the Grill Room (called the "long table" and "round table"). When
alone, you may also sit at the Grill Room bar or at any table of your choosing
in the dining rooms.
DINNER DINING
Dinner features traditional "white table cloth" service, with your server
taking and placing your order. Members are asked to review and sign the check at
the end of the evening.
Evening meal service offers gourmet a la carte menu and wine by the glass and
bottle. Our pianist plays on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Main Dining
Room.
A variety of finest quality dinner specials and buffets
featuring salad and entree for one fixed price. Nightly
specials are offered from time to time often hightlighting
seasonal specialties. Chef's Night on Thursday
includes at least three selections. “American Bistro”
is offered on Friday evenings and features a cold buffet.
Value-priced entrees are available on this menu, as
well as gourmet selections. During the Christmas season,
a Holiday Buffet replaces the American Bistro
menu. Pan fried chicken and made-from-scratch mashed
potatoes and gravy are offered on Family Night
on Wednesday evenings. Entrees may also be ordered from
the menu.

may also call the Club in advance and arrange for preparation of food items not
appearing on the menu. Additionally, the Club’s baker can prepare custom-baked
cakes to help celebrate special events.
BAR SERVICE [ Top

Full bar service is available in the Grill Room each day the Club is open
beginning at 11:30am. Bar service includes the broadest variety of spirits,
wines and beers. A qualified bartender is on duty. In the evening, the Grill
Room is a bar room; it is also used for dinner by some diners. The Grill Room
is an ideal location to watch sports events due to large-screen televisions.

- Cooking Lessons
The Club features Saturday cooking lessons with General
Manager David Radwine, CCM. A gourmet meal is cooked and
eaten by the group. Consult the annual program calendar
and the Syllabus for
details.
- Speakers
Throughout the year, guest speakers are invited to
make presentations. These speakers discuss topics
pertinent to the members. The presentations are accompanied
by lunch or dinner.
- Entertainment
A variety of bands entertain at Club-hosted events.
Additionally, the Club presents dinner meal events
and live musical performances in the Main Dinning
Room.
- Children's Programming
Activities for children include the Kool Yule children's
holiday party, tea parties, and cooking and etiquette
classes.
- Bridge Group
Bridge-playing members and their guests meet on Thursday
evenings. The group has dinner at 6pm followed by
bridge from 7 to 9:30pm. Players range from novice
to knowledgeable.
- Literary Series
The Literary Series holds monthly lunches featuring
noted speakers on literary topics. Members benefit
from presentations even if they have not read the
featured book.
- Library
The Club includes a Library featuring extensive magazine
and newspaper subscriptions. Members are invited to
use the materials in the Library. Reading materials
may be removed from the Library to the Lobby or a
dining room; however, they should be returned to the
Library after use.
- Cigar Stand
The Club has a cigar stand featuring hand-rolled cigars,
premium cigarettes and related items. Matches and
ashtrays are located throughout the Club. Smoking
is permitted in the Grill Room.
- Business Services
Local calls may be made from the Member phone located
in the lobby. Pay phones are available for long distance
calls. Photocopies and telefaxes can be arranged with
the lobby desk and are billed to your account. Business
can be conducted at the business station located on
the main level near the lobby.
- Pre-Performance Dining
The Sangamo Club can accomodate reservations as early
as 5:45pm on evenings of performance of the Sangamon
Auditorium, Theatre Center, Illinois Symphony Orchestra
and Illinois Chamber Orchestra. When making your reservation,
simply notify the receptionist of your need to dine
early.
- Winemaker and Beer Dinners
Occasional dinners are held featuring the wines, beers,
or spirits of a particular vineyard or vendor. Representatives
present information regarding the growing season,
preparation and making and sales of wines or beers.
A gourmet meal compliments the wine or beer.
ELECTED MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES [ Top

Members in good standing of the Sangamo Club are encouraged to invite and
sponsor potential members. Membership applications are available by contacting
the Membership and Program Director.
Membership proposals must be signed by a sponsoring Member, be approved by the
Membership Committee and be accepted by the Board of Directors. Upon Membership
Committee and Board approval, the nominee's name is posted for five business
days on the Club bulletin board. If no objection is received in the five day
period, the Secretary informs the nominee of his/her acceptance as a member. At
that time the initiation fee and first month's dues and improvement fund
assessment are billed.

Resident An applicant of good character, age 35 or above, whose permanent
residence, except for temporary absences, is within 50 miles of Springfield.
Qualified Business Privileges
Applicants who work full-time for a Qualified Business are eligible for a 50%
discount off the initiation fee. A Qualified Business is a non-governmental
business or not-for-profit organization which employs three or more Resident
Members on a full-time basis. When an application causes the entity to become a
Qualified Business (by increasing the number of Resident Members to three), the
initiation fee discount will also apply.
Qualified Business Employee Waivers
When a Resident Member ceases to remain a full-time employee of a Qualified
Business, the Club will establish one initiation fee waiver in the name of the
Qualified Business. The Qualified Business may then designate another of its
full-time employees to receive a waiver of an initiation fee. The waiver must
be used within three months.
- Senior Resident Member
Any Resident Member whose combined age and number of years as a Club Member
totals 100 shall qualify for Senior Resident Membership. To become a Senior
Resident Member, the qualifying Member must notify the Club in writing of their
intention to transfer to Senior status.
- Young Professional
An applicant of good character, age 21 through 34, whose permanent residence,
except for temporary absences, is within 50 miles of Springfield. When a Young Professional
Member attains age 35, he/she shall be reclassified as a Resident Member.
Half the initiation fee ($625) is payable within 30 days after application
approval. The balance is to be paid in equal yearly installments each January
prior to applicant's 35th birth date.
- Non-Resident
A person of good character whose permanent home is more than 50 miles from
Springfield, and whose residence within said 50 mile limit is only temporary or
occasional.
- Non-Resident Lobbyist Transfers
A Non-Resident Member registered as a lobbyist may transfer credit for having
paid the initiation fee to a new non-resident applicant. The applicant must be
replacing the Member as the new registered lobbyist for the same entity. The
existing Member must identify the name of the new lobbyist and must tender a
resignation to the Club.
- Senior Non-Resident Member
Any Non-Resident Member whose combined age and number of years as a Club Member
totals 100 shall qualify for Senior Non-Resident Membership. To become a Senior
Non-Resident Member, the qualifying Member must notify the Club in writing of
their intention to transfer to Senior status.
- Honorary
- Honorary memberships are offered to the following State of Illinois elected
officials: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Comptroller,
Treasurer and Attorney General. Honorary membership shall be offered to the
elected Mayor of the City of Springfield, Illinois. Honorary membership for
elected officials shall terminate at the expiration of their tenure in the
office. Honorary membership may be offered to such other persons as the Board
determines and may be granted to a Resident Member in recognition of long and
faithful service to the Club.
Miscellaneous
- Surviving Spouse
The surviving spouse of a deceased Member will be invited to assume the Club membership. Member classification will be based on the surviving spouse’s age. Senior status will be based on the surviving spouse’s age plus the number of years of membership based on the original initiation date.
- Family Member Waivers
The initiation fee of any applicant who is at least 21 years old will be waived
if proposed for membership by a parent, grandparent, step parent, child or
spouse who is a Club Member.
- Membership Category Transfers
When a Non-Resident Member transfers to Resident or Young Professional membership, and the
applicant has not previously been a Resident or Young Professional Member, the transfer fee
will be the difference paid for Non-Resident membership and the current
Resident or Young Professional membership fee. There is no fee for Resident or Young Professional
Members who transfer to Non-Resident membership.
- Reinstatement
A former Member of the Club who was in good standing, when membership
terminated may, upon application, be reinstated as a Member. A reinstatement
payment is required to the Club equal to the amount the former Member would
have paid as a building assessment had he/she not terminated membership, plus
$50. In no event will the fee exceed the amount of the current initiation fee.
- Holiday Bonus
Each year in October, all Members shall be assessed a fee, to be determined by
the Board of Directors to create a holiday fund to be paid to the Club
employees in December.
